Women of Willow Bank (WOW)
The WOW fleet was established in 1991 by several women who came together to sail in a non-competitive, recreational manner. Most of us sail Sunfish, but other singlehanded boats are welcome. Sailing experience is not a prerequisite, in fact, many of u
s learned to sail through Women of Willow Bank. Having a boat is not necessary right away. We are always happy to double up with newcomers. Although several WOWs compete regularly with the Sunfish fleet, most of us sail for fun and enjoy the social aspect of the group.
We meet at 4pm every Wednesday, sail for about two hours and then gather on the deck for drinks and snacks. Yes, we have fun, but are also dedicated sailors of all levels. In the case of inclement weather, we convene at 5:30 in observance of the social hour.
We offer some structure in the form of capsizing drills and short talks on any sailing topic of interest.
The WOW season begins in earnest at the end of June but we will sail on any Wednesday in May, weather permitting. For more information, contact either of us as we are always welcoming new sailors!
